Commitment

1

The size of the bonito

In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.

2

Raw bonito from Kochi

Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.

3

Straw from Shiga

We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Kohoku, northern Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.

4

The grilling

Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.

5

The thickness of the cut

Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.

6

Our chosen salt

A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

Service

04

How to enjoy Robata

Robata Story

01

One minute from either station, then to the hearth

About a minute on foot from the south exit of JR Ishiyama Station, and about a minute from Keihan Ishiyama Station. Once inside the 78 seat room, go and stand where the straw flames rise.

02

Tosa-Saga bonito, exactly as it comes

The bonito is shipped direct from Tosa-Saga port in Kochi. Begin at the smoke-wrapped surface, with nothing added, and confirm the sweetness of the fish itself.

03

Bring in condiments, rock salt and citrus

Change the flavor for the second half. Straw-grilled Omi beef from Shiga also finishes lighter with rock salt and a squeeze of citrus.

04

A cup on the open terrace

Counter, table and sofa seats, plus an open terrace. Cigarettes are allowed on the terrace only, and it suits a drink after a walk along the Seta River or the Seta no Karahashi bridge.

Host a Successful Large Banquet in Ishiyama with Our Exquisite Seafood!

We Support Organizers in Their Quest for a Successful Large-Group Banquet in Ishiyama

To all the organizers planning a large-group banquet in Ishiyama, we understand the hard work you put in. Whether it's a company year-end party, New Year's gathering, farewell or welcome party, an important get-together with friends, or a family celebration, these large events are special occasions for all attendees. For the organizer, there's a strong desire to make it a success. However, from choosing a restaurant and selecting dishes to managing the budget and coordinating the event on the day, the list of things to consider can be overwhelming.

Especially with a 'large group,' concerns like 'Will the food quality suffer?', 'Can we provide dishes that satisfy everyone?', and 'Can we secure a spacious private room?' often arise. We listen sincerely to these concerns from organizers and strive day and night to deliver the best banquet that exceeds your expectations. Despite our convenient location right near Keihan Ishiyama Station, we offer a tranquil space where you can forget the hustle and bustle and enjoy your banquet to the fullest.

In this article, we will detail the secrets to hosting a successful large-group banquet in Ishiyama from the perspective of our 'commitment to ingredients.' By the time you finish reading, we are confident you will feel that 'this is the restaurant I can trust with my important banquet.'

  • Organizers planning a large-group banquet
  • Those looking for an izakaya in Ishiyama with delicious seafood
  • Those who want to plan a memorable company celebration or welcome/farewell party
  • Those considering a special gathering with family or friends
  • Those searching for an 'Ishiyama banquet izakaya'

If any of these apply to you, please read on.

Tips for Solving Common Problems with Large-Group Banquets

When planning a large-group banquet, the worries and anxieties for organizers are endless. Naturally, you want everyone who attends to say, 'That was fun,' and 'The food was delicious.' Here, we'll highlight some common 'problems' we hear and offer our perspective and hints for solving them.

Concerns About 'Food Quality' with Large Groups

We often hear concerns like, 'Even if there are many dishes in a large-group banquet menu, isn't the quality of each one low?' or 'It feels like much of it is pre-made and lacks care.' This is especially disappointing for customers who come expecting high-quality Ishiyama seafood. At our restaurant, our motto is to serve every single dish with heartfelt care, precisely because it's for a large group. We use an abundance of fresh fish delivered direct from the fishing port and carefully selected seasonal ingredients, prepared by our skilled chefs. Therefore, we strive to ensure that even large parties can enjoy a level of satisfaction that is equal to, if not greater than, that of our individual customers.

The Need for 'Securing Seats' and 'Private Spaces'

For a large-group banquet, securing a space where all participants can relax comfortably is crucial. If tables are too close together or you're bothered by the conversations of other guests, it's hard for your own conversations to flow. A private space where you can talk without worrying about your surroundings is particularly sought after for important company celebrations in Ishiyama, business dinners, or even for use as a private date-night izakaya in Ishiyama. We offer a variety of private rooms of different sizes to suit your group size and purpose, accommodating even the largest of banquets. Each room is highly private, allowing you to enjoy conversation and your meal to the fullest in a calm atmosphere.

Concerns About 'Transparency' in Budgets and Pricing

For a banquet organizer, budget management is an extremely important task. You want to avoid situations where additional charges are incurred later or where unclear billing leads to complaints from participants. To ensure our customers can enjoy their banquet with peace of mind, we clearly present the prices for our set course meals and all-you-can-drink plans. We can also flexibly adjust the content to match your budget, so please don't hesitate to consult with us. As an Otsu izakaya, we want to be a restaurant trusted by our local community.

The Burden of 'Preparation and Coordination' on the Organizer

Preparing for a banquet and managing it on the day can be a significant burden for the organizer. Especially with a large group, gathering requests from participants and making detailed arrangements with the restaurant takes time and effort. To lighten the organizer's load as much as possible, our dedicated staff will provide meticulous support from the reservation stage all the way through to the day of the banquet. Please feel free to ask us about anything, from the content of the dishes and types of drinks to seating arrangements and consultations for surprise presentations. As a drinking spot in Awazu, we are here to assist our local customers with their needs.

Why Our 'Commitment to Ingredients' Makes for a Spectacular Large-Group Banquet

To make a large-group banquet in Ishiyama a success, the 'quality of the food' is the ultimate deciding factor. The many exquisite dishes we proudly serve, packed with our commitment to quality ingredients, will surely transform your gathering into an unforgettable event. Herein lies the essence of our Ishiyama izakaya.

1. Freshness and Quality Direct from the Port Delivers a 'Satisfying' Taste, Even for Large Groups

The foundation of our cuisine is, without a doubt, fresh seafood. Every morning, we source the day's catch direct from our partner fishing ports across the country. By bypassing the market, the seafood is delivered to our restaurant in the shortest possible time, allowing us to maintain the 'outstanding freshness' that is the true pleasure of Ishiyama seafood. Even when catering to a large group banquet, which requires a large volume of fish, we make no compromises and deliver the highest freshness and quality in every single dish.

  • Securing Seasonal Fish: We select the most delicious fish for each season, with our recommendations changing based on the day's catch. For example, you can fully enjoy the best of the season with Red Sea Bream in spring, Grunt in summer, Returning Bonito in autumn, and Yellowtail in winter.
  • Prepared to Perfection by Master Chefs: As soon as the fresh fish arrives, our master chefs assess each type and its condition, skillfully preparing it to bring out its maximum flavor. Even the way the sashimi is sliced reflects a delicate technique that considers the direction of the fish's fibers and its texture.
  • A Gorgeous Funamori (Boat Platter) to Grace Your Banquet: As a centerpiece for large-group banquets, our magnificent sashimi boat platter is a feast for the eyes and gets the celebration started with a flourish. The colorful assortment of seasonal fresh fish, arranged beautifully, will delight both your eyes and your palate. Our fresh fish is so delicious, many say it's wonderful even without soy sauce.

2. Our Famous 'Straw-Grilled Bonito' Takes Center Stage! A Thrilling Experience for All Five Senses

Our signature dish, synonymous with our restaurant, is the famous straw-grilled bonito (Katsuo no Warayaki). The dynamic grilling process, with fragrant smoke and towering flames, fills the venue with energy and excitement. This live, performance-like presentation offers the ultimate entertainment for a large-group banquet.

  • The Aromatic Scent of Straw Stimulates the Appetite: By searing the bonito instantly over a high-temperature straw fire, the surface becomes fragrant and crisp while the inside remains moist and rare. The unique, rich aroma of the straw enhances the umami of the bonito, creating a distinctive flavor you won't find elsewhere.
  • A Blissful Experience for All Five Senses: The sight of the roaring flames, the fragrant smell of the burning straw, the sound of the searing, and the moment it enters your mouth—the crisp texture of the skin and the melt-in-your-mouth flavor of the flesh. The straw-grilling, stimulating all five senses, will become an unforgettable experience for every guest.
  • A Perfect Marriage with Various Condiments: The straw-grilled bonito is delicious enjoyed simply with salt, or with condiments like garlic, ginger, and green onions. It also pairs exceptionally well with our special ponzu sauce. You can enjoy limitless flavors based on your preference. We can also suggest different ways to eat it to keep things interesting, even for a large group.

3. Colorful Banquet Dishes Woven from the Bounty of Otsu and Seasonal Ingredients

In addition to seafood, as a local Otsu izakaya, we actively incorporate seasonal vegetables grown in the rich soil of Shiga, as well as brand-name Omi meats. By using an abundance of seasonal ingredients, we offer colorful banquet cuisine that is full of the feeling of the season.

  • Vegetables Straight from Local Farmers: We source fresh, flavorful vegetables, grown in fertile soil blessed by Lake Biwa, directly from local farmers. We prepare them in ways that maximize their natural sweetness and aroma, while also considering their balance with our seafood dishes.
  • Brand-Name Omi Pork and Chicken: Shiga Prefecture's prized brand-name meats also add a touch of luxury to our banquet cuisine. For example, we offer a variety of menu items like rich and flavorful braised Omi pork and umami-packed Omi chicken karaage, ensuring that even guests who are not fond of seafood will be satisfied.
  • Special Seasonal Courses: We also offer special banquet courses available only during certain seasons, incorporating the freshest ingredients. From wild mountain vegetables in spring and pike conger in summer to matsutake mushrooms in autumn and crab in winter, we select the very best of each season to grace your banquet table.

4. Reliable Private Rooms and Flexible Service as an 'Ishiyama Banquet Izakaya' for Large Groups

For large-group banquets, a comfortable space and attentive service are just as important as the quality of the food. Our capability to handle large-group banquets in Ishiyama should be a great source of reassurance for any organizer.

  • Private Rooms for Various Group Sizes: We have private rooms that can accommodate groups ranging from a two-person date at an Ishiyama izakaya to parties of 10, 20, and even up to 40 or more guests. We can suggest the optimal room for your occasion and guests, including horigotatsu (sunken kotatsu) seating, table seating, and zashiki (tatami mat) rooms. You can relax and enjoy your time in a spacious setting without worrying about other customers.
  • Comprehensive All-You-Can-Drink Plans: Essential for any banquet, our all-you-can-drink plans feature a wide variety of beverages. The lineup includes beer, sake, shochu, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy.
  • Allergy Accommodations and Menu Adjustments: If notified in advance, we can accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions. We can also flexibly adjust course contents according to your budget and requests. We will work closely with the organizer to create the perfect banquet plan together.
  • Excellent Location Within Walking Distance of the Station: Our access as a Keihan Ishiyama izakaya is superb. The convenient location, just a few minutes' walk from Ishiyama Station, is a major advantage for guests coming from afar and for ease of travel home. It allows for smooth arrivals and departures, which also reduces the burden on the organizer.

Practical Steps for Organizers to Ensure a Successful Banquet in Ishiyama

Here are some concrete steps for organizers to follow to ensure the smooth planning of a large-group banquet in Ishiyama. Following these points will bring you much closer to a successful event.

  1. Step 1: Key Points for Choosing a Restaurant and the Importance of a Preliminary Visit

First, clarify the purpose of the banquet, the number of participants, the budget, and the desired type of cuisine to narrow down your list of potential restaurants. Especially for large groups, the size of the space, the availability of private rooms, and accessibility are crucial.

    • Confirm Private Rooms for Your Group Size: The main concern for organizers is often whether a private room is available that can accommodate a large group. Our private rooms can handle groups from just a few people to several dozen. We highly recommend checking photos on our website beforehand or, if possible, visiting the restaurant for a preliminary look. Seeing the space in person will make it easier to visualize the event.
    • Check Transportation Access: Our convenient location as a Keihan Ishiyama izakaya is a major benefit for all attendees. Confirm the route and travel time from the station and prepare this information to share easily with participants.
    • Cuisine and Quality: While our focus is on Ishiyama seafood and straw-grilled bonito, we also offer a full range of other Japanese dishes and seasonal menus. If your participants have diverse tastes, let's discuss and adjust the course content in advance.
  2. Step 2: What to Confirm When Booking and How to Communicate Your Requests

Once you've chosen a restaurant, it's time to make a reservation. Communicating detailed information and coordinating closely with the restaurant at this stage is the key to success.

    • Date, Time, and Accurate Headcount: Provide the date, start time, planned end time, and the exact number of participants (mentioning the possibility of fluctuations).
    • Select Your Course and All-You-Can-Drink Plan: Choose from our wide range of banquet courses to match your budget and preferences. Confirm the availability and duration of all-you-can-drink options. Don't hesitate to ask questions about the menu. Be sure to inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions at this stage.
    • Specify Room Requests: Make specific requests, such as 'fully private room preferred' or 'horigotatsu seating preferred.' For large groups, we can also discuss the layout.
    • Discuss Surprises and Special Arrangements: If you are planning any special arrangements like arranging a cake, preparing a bouquet, or using a projector, consulting with us in advance will ensure everything goes smoothly.
    • Exchange Contact Information: It's a good idea to provide contact information for both the main organizer and a secondary contact for emergencies.
  3. Step 3: Preparations for a Smooth Event on the Day

Once the reservation is complete, begin preparations for the day of the event. This extra effort will significantly reduce the organizer's burden on the day.

    • Final Confirmation Call: A few days before the banquet, call to confirm the final number of people, the course details, and the start time. This makes it easier to handle any last-minute changes.
    • Share Information with Participants: Share the meeting spot, start time, restaurant location (with a map), budget, and course details with the attendees. As an easily accessible Ishiyama banquet izakaya, it is unlikely many people will get lost.
    • Confirm Payment Method: Confirm in advance whether you will pay as a group or individually, and whether credit cards are accepted.
    • Create a Seating Chart (If Necessary): If you need to seat executives or specific groups together, creating a seating chart beforehand will help things run smoothly.
    • Your Arrival Time: As the organizer, plan to arrive a little before the start time to do a final check with the restaurant staff.
